The Big Write VCOP” by Andrell Education is a comprehensive and systematic approach to teaching writing designed to help pupils improve their standard of writing.
VCOP stands for vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation. This approach emphasizes the importance of teaching writing in a meaningful and engaging way that encourages pupils to develop their writing skills through regular and sustained practice. It’s a well structured approach that makes it an ideal teaching model for children with ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ASD, for example.
The fundamental principles of the Big Write is a well researched teaching method around the writing processes, and the skills pupils need to develop to become proficient writers. The approach used by your writing tutor teaches pupils to plan, draft, revise and edit their writing, while providing them opportunities to build their vocabulary, grammar and punctuation.
This is closely followed by guided practise, after which the child is encouraged to independently practise at home. This process allows pupils to develop a clear understanding of what is expected of them when writing and provides them with a clear framework for improving their writing skills.
